Distribution of Internet Mail

What I learned:

  • “Media Directories have essential information such as: names of publications and broadcast stations, mailing addresses, telephone and fax numbers, e-mail addresses, names of key editors and reporters; as well as a profile of the media outlet in terms of the audience, deadlines, and placement opportunities.”
  • The vast majority of publicity materials have traditionally been distributed  through four methods: mail, fax, electronic wire services, and feature placement firms.

What surprised me:

  • “Bacon’s Information, Inc. publishes a comprehensive 10-volume set of directories… all of its directories combined feature nearly 80,000 media outlets, cover more than 600,000 beats, and include more than 120,000 profiles of journalists”………..that’s a lot!
  • Dedicated Internet users actually call e-mail “snail mail”

What I want to know more about:

  • Are fax machines even part of the 21st century?
  • How to choose which distribution channel to use…. there is some info on this on page 286 in the 5th edition, but more than just defining what the different types of distribution are, actually give more insight as to know which channel to use, based on the type of information you are presenting.
