Chapter Eight Thoughts…

Photos and Graphics

What I learned:

  • Elements of a good publicity photo includes quality, subject matter, composition, action, scale, camera angles, lighting and color.
  • How to take product photos that get published ( page 188 in 5th edition)
  • “Remember that photographs, even for publicity, are not advertising. Make sure you identify the news value of the story you want to illustrate.”

What surprised me:

  • “Web sites sacrifice quality for the speed of download, so they typically want images at 72 dpi (dots per inch)… Newspapers want photos at around 150-200 dpi and magazines need at least 300 dpi!

What I want to know more about:

  • How to find the right type of photographer for your event or story. Like, how do you go about finding a wedding photographer, verses a sports photographer, verses an underwater photographer? Where do you find these people!?! lol :0)
